How Can I Reduce My Risk of Sexual Assault?

No one asks to be sexually assaulted and the only person to blame for sexual assault is the assailant. Although there is no way to guarantee a woman’s safety, education and awareness are the first steps to preventing sexual assault. Listed below are several steps you can take to lower your risk of becoming a victim.

What Can I Do?
  • Trust your instincts! If a situation doesn’t feel right, leave.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Stick to well-lit paths when walking at night.
  • Do not accept drinks from people you don’t know in social situations.
  • Have your keys ready before you get to your door—home or car.
